From Reverend Urushibata on the Occasion of the Installation Ceremony for Reverend Shingi Iwaki
I would like to offer a few words of congratulations.
On the occasion of the Inauguration Ceremony of Rev. Shingi Iwaki as the 7th Chief Priest of Myogyoji Temple, with the attendance of relative priests, and many believers, I want to congratulate you for holding such a splendid ceremony today. I want to offer my congratulations as a representative from the Overseas Department.
With orders from the High Priest, at this time, Rev. Yuzui Murata will be going to Washington D.C. to be appointed as Chief Priest of Myosenji Temple, and Rev. Shingi Iwaki has been appointed to Chief Priest of this Myogyoji Temple as his successor. And today, we have just conducted the Inauguration Ceremony.
The new Chief Priest, Rev. Shingi Iwaki, was working as a secretary at the Overseas Department for a long period of time, but he has strong ties with the United States. Because his father was the Chief Priest at Myosenji Temple, he spent 10 years in Washington as a child, and 6 more years as an Assistant Priest in Myosenji after becoming a priest.
At this time, the High Priest has acknowledged his experience and character, and has appointed him to succeed as the Chief Priest of Myogyoji Temple.
He is diligent, gentle, honest, and is loved by everyone. I believe he can get along with the believers of Myogyoji Temple.
Rev. Iwaki, please pay attention along with your wife for your health, and I am looking forward for you to take an active role and bringing your ability to full play in the propagation of the Chicago region, and furthermore the propagation of the United States through the unity of priest and laity, and Itai-doshin.
I want to thank Rev. Murata for working hard for the propagation of the Chicago region as Chief Priest of Myogyoji Temple. I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart for his achievements.
I believe he will use the experience accumulated at Myogyoji for the purpose of Kosen-rufu in the Washington region.
To the believers of Myogyoji Temple, from now on, under the guidance of the new Chief Priest Rev. Iwaki, please largely devote yourself to the doubling of the Bodhisattvas, towards the 750th Anniversary of Revealing the Truth and Upholding Justice through the Submission of the Rissho ankoku-ron.
Nichiren Daishonin mentions in “How Those Initially Aspiring to the Way Can Attain Buddhahood through the Lotus Sutra”,
“Three things are required--a good teacher, a good believer and a good doctrine--before the prayers can be effective and disasters banished from the land.” (MW 6-192~3)
A good teacher overall, is the 68th High Priest Nichinyo Shonin, who received the Lineage of the Law from Nichiren Daishonin and His successors. Separately, it will be Rev. Iwaki, who was appointed as Chief Priest of Myogyoji Temple by the order of High Priest Nichinyo Shonin.
A good believer is each one of you here today devoting yourself for the protection of the True Law and the Temple, as well as for the propagation in the United States.
A good doctrine is the Dai-Gohonzon of the Three Great Secret Laws inscribed by Nichiren Daishonin, whose Inner Realization transcribed by the High Priest is enshrined here at Myogyoji Temple. Furthermore, it is the Gohonzon enshrined in the homes of each one of you.
Today, all three of them, the good teacher, the good believer, and the good doctrine, are lined up here. Furthermore, you have a brilliant fortress of the Law in the form of Myogyoji Temple.
With this, you have a solid system aiming toward Kosen-rufu.
Now we need to advance for the propagation of the Chicago region, as well as all of the United States, and furthermore the world by accumulating Shodai towards this Gohonzon.
High Priest Nichinyo Shonin gave us the following guidance at the Shodai-gyo on January 31, 2008.
“We look at the state of today’s world, and we see the social conditions are that of the Five Impurities of the Evil Age. Politics are going extreme, and the economy is in recession. Also, the education system, as well as the medical system has many problems. Even in these circumstances, it is very precious for us to chant Daimoku on our own strength to conduct shakubuku to pray for the happiness of all people, and true peace all over the world.”
To the believers of Myogyoji Temple, please strongly advance in unity with the priest and laity, aiming for the establishment of the Buddha Land of the True Law, and for true worldwide peace, please conduct shakubuku and accumulate Shodai.
In closing my congratulatory message, I pray from the bottom of my heart for everyone’s further devotion, the prosperity of Myogyoji Temple, and further advancement in propagation and peace in the United States.
Thank you very much.
