Gojukai (Conferral of the Precepts)

The formal ceremony in which one becomes a Nichiren Shoshu believer, taking refuge in the Gohonzon and vowing to uphold the Law.

Visiting Head Temple Taisekiji in Japan to worship the Dai-Gohonzon. Pilgrimages are organized regularly—ask the temple office for dates.

Preparing for Ceremony

  • Arrive 15 minutes early to settle your mind and review etiquette.
  • Wear respectful, modest clothing. Business casual is encouraged.
  • Bring your Gongyo book and Juzu beads if you have them. Loaner sets are available.
  • Invite friends to observe introductory portions—contact the office to confirm which ceremonies include guest orientations.
