What is Kosen-rufu?
Kosen-rufu means the widespread propagation of the Mystic Law for the happiness of all people and the peace of the land. It is the shared mission of the Priesthood and laity in Nichiren Shoshu.
Nichiren Daishonin’s vow
Nichiren risked his life to declare Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo so that every person could reveal Buddhahood. He urged his disciples to work with the same determination until the Mystic Law permeates society. Kosen-rufu is not an abstract concept—it is the pledge to relieve suffering here and now.
How Myogyoji Temple advances kosen-rufu
- Daily practice: Members chant for the happiness of their families, workplaces, and communities.
- Temple activities: Oko, study meetings, and special ceremonies deepen faith and transmit the Gosho spirit.
- Shakubuku: Sharing Buddhism through warm dialogue, home visits, and introductory meetings.
- Regional unity: The 17-state Hokkeko network around Myogyoji collaborates on daimoku campaigns and study tours.
Peace of the land begins with one person
When even one person changes their life-condition through chanting, their family and workplace shift. As more people chant, society becomes compassionate and resilient. Nichiren taught that true peace arises from the Mystic Law, not from political power or material wealth.
Every conversation, encouragement, or offering made with faith contributes to kosen-rufu. Treasure each opportunity to support someone’s practice.
